A woman is dead after troopers say a driver in a pickup truck pulled in front of the motorcycle she was riding on.
Officials say it happened around 2:58 p.m. Sunday.
Troopers say that 74-year-old Robert Wooten of Maple Hill was heading west on Gurganus Road near NC 53 in Maple Hill when he went to turn into the driveway of his home. Troopers say when he did so, he pulled in front of a motorcycle that was heading east on Gurganus Road driven by 47-year-old Edward Brumfield. Troopers say Brumfield swerved to avoid the truck but ended up laying the bike down onto its right side which then slid under the truck.
Officials say Brumfield’s 49-year-old wife Sally, a passenger on the bike, died at the scene as a result of injuries from the wreck.
Troopers have charged Wooten with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and a yield violation.
Officials say that Edward Brumfield was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he is expected to recover from the accident.
