Troopers say they have identified the woman who was hit and killed along U.S. Highway 13 early Sunday morning.
Trp. J.C. Copeland said the woman killed was 29-year-old Victoria Little.
Little was found 3 a.m. Sunday near the middle of the road on the northbound side of U.S. 13 in Bertie County, about two miles north of Martin County, according to officials.
Authorities are unsure what Little was doing on the road at that hour and said she was hit by a car.

The woman was found close to the middle of the road on the northbound side of U.S. 13 in Bertie County, north of the town of Williamston, also roughly 2 miles north of Martin County, according to authorities.
Highway Patrol received the call at 3:00 a.m. Sunday. All they know at this point is that the woman is African American, and approximately 5'5" to 5'8" with a tattoo on her right leg that reads "Vicky."
Authorities say she was struck by an unknown vehicle.
