Troopers: Vanceboro Man Not Wearing Seatbelt, Dies In Speedy Crash

A 29-year-old Vanceboro man is dead after the car he was driving struck a utility pole, a concrete tile pile underneath a driveway, and then overturned before ejecting him.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Brian Kirby was driving a 2001 Cadillac north on U.S. 17 near State Road 1628 in Craven County when his vehicle ran off the left side of the road making impact with the utility pole.

The crash happened at approximately 4:14 a.m.

Officials said Kirby struck a guy wire anchor point before landing in a residential yard, and died on the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Officials also said the vehicle was estimated to be travelling between 75-85 miles per hour along a section of the roadway where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour.
