TROOPERS: Majority of Chickens Dead After Transport Truck Flips Over

Troopers said a chicken transport truck driver got distracted on an early morning haul, and flipped his truck off a Rose Hill road.

Trooper John Gurganus said around 2 a.m., Oscar Williams was distracted while driving the truck for Nash-Johnson, and ran off Brices Store Road. Williams' truck flipped on the side.

Trpr. Gurganus said the driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and will be cited for failure to maintain lane control.

Investigators said part of Brices Store Road was shut down until nearly 5 a.m. as workers tried to gather up the live chickens that escaped into a nearby cotton field.

Trpr. Gurganus said the chickens were being transported to a House of Raeford plant in Rose Hill, North Carolina.
