TROOPERS: Local Marine Killed In Drunk Driving Wreck

A late night on the road turned deadly for a local Marine when troopers said a fellow Marine was driving drunk and smashed into a concrete wall.

The deadly wreck happened early Saturday just after 12:45 a.m. in Onslow County.

The highway patrol says 21-year-old Octavius Thompson was driving the car and 21-year-old David Moore Jr. was in the backseat.

According to investigators, Thompson ran a stop sign at the intersection of Blue Creek Road and Canady Road, just outside the Jacksonville city limits. That is when troopers said the car ran into a runoff and crashed into a concrete barrier going nearly 50 miles per hour.

Moore died at the scene of the wreck and Thompson was taken to a local hospital.

Troopers said Thompson is charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

They said a charge of felony death by motor vehicle is pending a conversation with the district attorney.
