The Teacher Of The Week for January 16, 2013 is Susan Leonard.
Susan is a registered nurse and has been in nursing for 20 years. She received her training in nursing at Nash Community College and Edgecombe Community College. She began teaching Health Occupations Education at Northern Nash High School in 2005 .
Susan writes: “I have been very fortunate to have two careers that I love and are both so rewarding. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to influence the lives of young people and especially in the health care field, an area that I am passionate about. I never get used to the feeling that I get when students learn new and interesting material and it just "clicks". Especially when I know that what they are learning will put them ahead on their journey to secondary education. I realize when I look at my students that they too will touch and change the lives of patients one day. This is why I love teaching and I am overwhelmed to have a hand in that! I love following up with students and finding out that they have successfully pursued a career in health care.”
The student who nominated Susan wrote: “I give her my nomination, because she cares about her students. She pushes us to do our very best, and always encourages us to follow our dreams. She is one of the few teachers that I know I will look back on my high school career and say, 'She really inspired me. I'm glad I am fortunate enough to have been taught by her.'”
