WITN's teacher of the week for March 13th, 2013 is Hannah Evans from Duplin County.
Hannah is a December 2011 graduate of ECU. She started teaching fifth grade at Kenansville Elementary School in Duplin County since February 2012.
Hannah writes: "I absolutely love the career that I have chosen. For me, teaching has always been my ultimate goal. The challenge of teaching students in a way that is just as much fun as it is rigorous is an extreme motivator for me. I love incorporating music, motion, and purposeful talk in my everyday lessons. My number one goal is to teach students to love learning, so that no matter where they go after they leave my classroom, they have an internal drive to keep them moving forward. I am also working to teach students how to be responsible and caring citizens. My students this year have organized and carried out a coat drive to benefit victims from Hurricane Sandy. We have collected more than 130 coats, and we will be sending them to The Collaborative Arts Middle School in Queens, New York."
The person who nominated Hannah wrote: "Hannah is is so fresh and new that she will go far with her innovations and methods of getting the children interested in their studies… this is a lady who is very excited and passionate about what she does. My son struggled so hard last year and just didn't like school, but I have seen the biggest change in him and his grades . He is excited to go every day."
