TEACHER OF THE WEEK: Fran Green From Pitt County

The Teacher of the Week for Wednesday, December 19th 2013 is Fran Green from Ayden-Grifton High School.

Green has been a registered nurse for 26 years. She worked at the hospital in Greenville from 1987-2003 in the labor and delivery/birthing units. In 2003, she began her teaching career with Pitt County Schools in the Health Sciences program. She taught six years at South Central and is in her fourth year at Ayden-Grifton.

Green received an associate's degree in nursing from Pitt Community College in 1987, a bachelor's degree in nursing from ECU in 2003 and a Master's degree in Education-Health Education and Promotion from ECU in 2011.

Green teaches students who have an interest in exploring a Health Career. Courses include but are not limited to, units in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical math, medical legal and ethical issues, and one course, Nursing Fundamentals, allows students to sit for the Nurse Aide Certification exam. She is a HOSA: Future Health Professionals adviser for the school, the NC District 1 HOSA Representative, and the NC HOSA Board Chair. HOSA Future Health Professionals provides students opportunities in developing leadership skills, community service projects and local, state and national competitive events. She is also the school's Wellness Committee chair and serve as the Career Technical Education department chair.

Green received 11 nominations for teacher of the week from students at Ayden-Grifton High School.
