WITN’s Teacher Of The Week for November 7 is Shannon Braxton from Chocowinity Primary School in Beaufort County.
She has been teaching for 12 years. She is a graduate of East Carolina University with a BS in Elementary Education. Her first teaching job was in Edgecombe County, and then she transitioned to Chocowinity. She received her National Board Certification in 2006. Currently, Shannon teaches third grade.
Shannon writes, “My desire as a teacher is to help students meet their fullest potential. I do this by teaching to the needs of each child utilizing various teaching methods. An important goal of mine is providing a safe and nurturing learning environment. I strive to create successful life-long learners by having meaningful, relevant lessons that motivate my students and support risk taking. I am blessed to work at a wonderful school full of innovative and creative teachers, as well as students that have a strong desire to learn.”
The person who nominated her wrote that Shannon “is a great teacher and tries her best to educate her students with the best of her abilities. If a student is having trouble she will take from her own time to help those students and she’s always in contact with the parents letting us know how our children are doing.”
