Search Continues For Missing Carolina Beach Swimmer


The hunt for the missing Carolina Beach swimmer is now deemed a search and recovery, according to our affiliate WECT.

WECT reports lifeguards saw the swimmer, who authorities identified as Terrance Miller, struggling in a rip current off Carolina Beach Saturday night.

Officials said lifeguards swam to Miller's rescue around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, but were unable to locate him.

Boats and helicopters joined the search, but the search was called off at nightfall Saturday and continued Sunday morning.

According to WECT, two helicopter passes are scheduled to search more Monday morning.

Authorities continue to look for a swimmer who disappeared after lifeguards saw him struggling in the surf off Carolina Beach.

Officials say the lifeguards swam out to the man around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, but couldn't find him. They left a float in the ocean to help boats and helicopters that joined in the search.

The search was called off at nightfall Saturday and began again Sunday morning. Officials planned extra beach patrols around Carolina Beach to try and find the missing man.

Authorities identified the missing swimmer as Terrance Miller.
