The beaches in Carteret County were busy Friday, just hours after Hurricane Arthur blew through.
Earlier in the day black flags were flying in Pine Knoll Shores warning people to stay out of the water due to dangerous conditions.
But some people couldn't resist the waves Friday, or even as Hurricane Arthur was making landfall.
Professional surfer and kite boarder Brandon Kistle says the conditions were just right for a 2:00 a.m. run on the waves.
Kistle says, "I kited for about 2 hours out in the ocean. The waves were about 12 to 14 feet. I was the only one out there."
