The National Weather Service says a fire department reported a tornado on the ground near Shine in Greene County, but further information indicates it was a funnel cloud that did not touch down.
There was no damage, but there is significant standing water on many roads and emergency management officials are urging people to stay off the roads.
The National Weather Service also says a tornado touched down on Mooring Road near Conetoe in Edgecombe County. A roof was blown off a residence there and there are numerous downed trees. There are many other reports of minor structural damage and downed trees in this area.
Also in Edgecombe County, 911 reports numerous road closures across the the county due to flooded roads, with the southern half of the county hardest hit.
The NWS says earlier in the afternoon a tornado touched down in a field between Highway 70 and Cove City in Craven County. There was no damage to report.
