The theft of copper in a new air conditioning system has forced the closure of Craven County's Health Department Complex.
The facility houses the health department, social services and veterans affairs.
Over the weekend someone stole some seven feet of copper tubing in the air conditioning system. The system, which cost $220,000, was installed late last year. There is no fence around that system and an estimated 400 pounds of freon escaped.
This morning temperatures rose in the building as employees and customers complained.
Just before noon the county announced it was closing the complex. We're told it could take up to a week to fix the problem.
