An Edgecombe County man found a creative way to propose to his girlfriend last Friday night with the help of a state trooper.
This is video of Dillon Parker proposing to his girlfriend Courtney Mitchell in Tarboro, after the two were pulled over by a state trooper on Highway 33, and asked to step out of the car. The trooper is a family friend of Parker's, and had permission to participate in the prank.
Parker says his girlfriend is pretty clever, and he wanted to do something she wouldn't see coming. He described her reaction from his point of view.
"She saw the ring and was like, 'Oh My God,' and that's when she grabbed her mouth, and she was speechless," said Parker.
The state trooper knows Parker's family from a horrible car crash he was involved in years ago. She's kept in touch with the family since. Parker and Mitchell say they plan to get married next summer, in either June or July.
