A North Carolina lawmaker says his colleagues in the General Assembly are likely to consider proposals to exclude abortion coverage from federal health insurance exchanges and to outlaw abortions based on gender preferences.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (http://bit.ly/13Txoud) that Rep. Paul "Skip" Stam said a law is being drafted to remove abortions from the health care exchange. He also said lawmakers will also need to deal with getting abortions based on sex selection.

Stam addressed a crowd Saturday at an anti-abortion rally in Nash Square in Raleigh.

Executive Director Suzanne Buckley of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina said 11 anti-choice bills were introduced and six passed during the last legislative session, and she expects the upcoming session to be worse for pro-choice forces.
