State Fairgrounds Has New Gun Show Rules

The North Carolina State Fairgrounds has new rules for gun shows after an accidental shooting that hurt three people last month.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said Tuesday visitors with guns must park in designated areas and use a separate entrance. The guns must be out of their cases with ammunition removed.

Security officers will continue to examine the guns and secure them with straps. Police will work to prevent sales in parking lots.

A security guard and two other people were hurt at the fairgrounds last month after a shotgun went off as it was being checked at the show's entrance. The owner was planning to sell it at the show.

The agriculture department says it consulted with law enforcement and promoters to develop the new rules.
