Complaints Prompt Postal Service To Change Mind On Eastern Carolina Closings

The U.S. Postal Services has reversed course on closing a half dozen Eastern Carolina post offices on Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons.

Thursday it announced that 11 North Carolina post offices would shorten their hours in another cost-savings measure. Those on the list included Atlantic Beach, Holly Ridge, Kenansville, Seven Springs, Beulaville, and Bridgeton.

But by Thursday evening, the Postal Service had received dozens of phone calls about the planned cuts. Mid-Carolinas District Manager Angela Curtis said she looked further into the matter and realized there were some other actions that could be considered.

More bad news if you like going to your local post office often.

That's because the U.S. Postal Service says effective next Saturday, May 18th at least a half dozen Eastern Carolina post offices will be closed Saturdays and Wednesday after 12 noon.

Those on the list include Atlantic Beach, Holly Ridge, Kenansville, Seven Springs, Beulaville, and Bridgeton.

The Postal Service says the cost-saving measures came about after it reviewed customer traffic at the locations.
