Despite the severe weather across the east Wednesday, some shoppers hit stores for post-holiday sales and to return gifts.

Bad weather put a damper on after-Christmas shopping and returns. Walmart in New Bern said the crowd was much slower than years past.

"The weather is terrible but my wife likes to come and buy the Christmas decorations for next year cause of the sales and she brings me along to carry the bags," said John Cannon.

Walmart says it expects a rush Thursday with the forecast calling for better weather.

Shoppers poured into the Greenville Mall looking for discounts Wednesday. Mall management says the day after Christmas is also a big day for people to redeem gift cards. Some of the stores were offering 50 - 75% off merchandise.

Mall management says the busiest time of the year is the weekend before Christmas.
