Solar Farm Sharing Tax Revenue With Bethel, Not Power

A new solar farm is supposed to be a bright spot for a Pitt County town struggling economically, although, some in Bethel believe the project is just an eyesore.

Russel Shaw lives across the street from the 50 acre solar farm. He's upset the town would allow for Sun Energy One to buy the land that will eventually produce electricity for Duke Energy.

The town manager says the farm should bring much needed tax revenue to the community, but that's about it because the solar farm will not actually lower electricity bills around town. These solar projects are located in Dominion NC Power's service territory which Duke Energy Renewables will use to bring down its dependence on coal.

The Bethel site is in addition to a solar site in Beaufort County and in Murfreesboro.
