Previous Story

Police are looking for a gunman who robbed a man as shots were fired in one Jacksonville neighborhood.

It happened around 2:20 p.m. Friday as the victim was walking through the parking area behind duplexes on Eastwood Drive near Starling Street.

It's in the same new River neighborhood where there have been recent shootings reported at night in the past few months. The most recent at the Jack Amyettte Recreation Center, which is right across the street from Friday's shooting and robbery.

The other shooting happened in the same block of Eastwood on April 22nd.

Police say the victim in Friday's robbery was not injured and is being questioned.

Several parents were waiting nearby just minutes after the shooting to greet their kids as they got off the school bus.

"No children walked home from school that day," said Onslow County Schools Public Information Officer Suzie Ulbrich. "They were all put on buses because of the situation."

Police say the gunman took off into nearby woods.

Officers had K-9 units out briefly searching for the robber, but so far no arrests have been made.
