Sewage Spills Into Tar River

Several thousand gallons of sewage ended up in the Tar River this morning.

Greenville Utilities says the spill was discovered around 7:50 a.m. They say it was caused by a grease blockage that caused an overflow at a manhole at West 5th Street and Elizabeth Street.

GUC says some 2,280 gallons of sewage ended up in the river. The spill was stopped in about a half hour and the area around the manhole was treated with a chlorine solution, according to the utility.
