Seven People Rescued From Sinking Boat Off Hatteras

Seven people were rescued from a sinking boat off Cape Hatteras Wednesday evening.

The U.S. Coast Guard says "Going Deep", a 26-foot boat, started to take on water some 14 miles east of the cape at Diamond Shoals around 4:30 p.m.

A Coast Guard boat from Hatteras Inlet and a helicopter from Elizabeth City responded. In the meantime, the merchant vessel "Diamond Lady" came to assist, helping the owner bail out water until the Coast Guard arrived.

No one was injured and the boat was towed to Teach's Lair Marina at Hatteras Village.
