NEW INFO: Missing Marine's Body Found In Cape Fear River

Authorities in Wilmington say they have found the body of a Camp Lejeune Marine. The discovery was made this morning on the Brunswick County side of the Cape Fear River.

Lance Corporal John Pruitt of Fontana, California either jumped or fell into the river late Sunday night. Camp Lejeune says Pruitt was a rifleman, assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines.

The Wilmington Fire Department says the body was positively identified as the 24-year-old Marine. His family has been notified of the death.

Rescue crews have suspended the search for a missing Camp Lejeune Marine who either fell or jumped into the Cape Fear River Sunday night.

Wilmington police have identified the man as Lance Corporal John Pruitt of Fontana, California. Camp Lejeune says Pruitt is a riffleman, assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines.

It happened around 11:35 p.m. off South Water Street in downtown Wilmington. Multiple agencies conducted a search for the man, who has been entered as a missing person. The Wilmington Fire Department Monday afternoon suspended its search for the man until further notice.

Camp Lejeune says Pruitt joined the Marines in November 2008.
