The search has been called off for a plane that witnesses say may have crashed in Nash County.
A Nash County emergency operator tells WITN that authorities were not able to find any evidence of a downed plane.
The search began Friday after the sheriff’s office received calls of a plane circling with smoke coming from behind it.
Officials say that today, some people that live in the area flew over the area the plane was said to have been spotted and found nothing.
Crews have been searching Friday night for wreckage from a possible plane crash in Nash County.
Highway Patrol tells WITN several people reported a small plane circling with smoke coming from it around 6:15 p.m.
Crews have been searching in the West Castalia and Sykes Road area but have not found anything.
At last check late Friday night, crews were still out looking but had not found any signs of a plane crash.
