Scores Of Homes Still Without Power After Storm

Crews in North Carolina are still working to restore electrical service to tens of thousands of homes, nearly two days after a powerful line of thunderstorms swept across the state toppling trees and knocking down lines.

Duke Energy and Progress Energy reported lingering outages to more than 35,000 customers Saturday morning. Utility crews from the Midwest and South Carolina traveled to the state to help.

More than two dozen counties reported some type of damage from Thursday's storm, which left three people dead.

UNC-Chapel Hill senior Xuezhou "Julia" Nan of Cary died when she was struck by a falling tree.

Wilkes County resident Maurice Kilby also died when a tree fell on him.

Wilkes volunteer firefighter Tony Barker was electrocuted after a tree fell onto power lines, sparking a fire.
