SHERIFF: Hole Cut In Store's Wall, ATM Cash Stolen

There’s been another case of a business being ripped off with burglars getting in through a hole in the rear wall.

Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks says a hole was found in the back on the Country Fare Store on Barrus Construction Road Tuesday morning. Deputies say the thieves likely used a battery-powered saw to cut through the metal building. Once inside, they pried open the ATM and stole the cash inside.

Deputies are looking at whether this is connected to other dramatic break-ins over the past several months.

Similar burglaries have been reported in Pitt County and neighboring counties since last fall. Also, on June 19th, a huge hole was discovered in the side of the U.S. Post Office in Stokes. The burglars cracked open the safe, which was just to the left of the hole. A sledgehammer and crowbar were left at the scene.
