SHERIFF: Man Tried To Kidnap Wife, Ends Up Robbing Her Store

A man who deputies say first tried to kidnap his wife who was working at a convenience store, ended up robbing the business.

William Harper of Kinston is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, second degree kidnapping and violating a domestic violence order.

Lenoir County Sheriff Chris Hill says around 8:50 a.m. Friday there was a robbery at the Mallards Food Shop in U.S. 70 in La Grange. Hill says Harper tried to kidnap his wife, but she refused to go along. The sheriff says that's when Harper pulled out a black and silver object and demanded money from the cash register.

Hill says the 31-year-old Harper was also threatening to kill his wife, who had a domestic violence order in place against him.

Harper was jailed on a $1,001,500 bond.
