The term "identity theft" often comes up in a scam alert. You have likely already heard you have to protect yourself from it, but how?

A few tips and ideas from the Department of Justice may help you keep your credit report free and clear.

The first applies to your old electronics: cell phones, computers, and tablets. Essentially, devices you store information on or use to access personal information.

You are advised to wipe them using a wipe utility program, which will clear off the hard drive where some information may be stored.

Also, keep an eye on your email inbox. Officials warn if you get an email from a bank or other company looking to confirm your account information, don't do it!
