POLICE: Man Shot As He Tried To Run Over Officer

SBI Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting

A Goldsboro man will face a judge this afternoon on charges he tried to kill police officers with his car Monday afternoon.

Jonathan Williams was shot in the arm, while Officer Anthony Ravine's leg was struck by the man's car.

Police had tried to stop Williams' car for traffic violations and a narcotics investigation when they say he drove off. A short police chase ended when Williams drove his vehicle behind a home on Pearson Street. As officers got out, they say Williams drove toward the officers. In addition to Officer Ravine being hit, Williams' car also struck his cruiser. Ravine fired several shots at the approaching vehicle, one which struck Williams in his left arm.

Both men were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital and Williams is now in jail on a $600,000 bond. He's charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony possession of a schedule II substance, driving careless and reckless, and an unsafe movement violation.

Because the officer fired his weapon, the SBI is investigating the shooting.

Previous Story
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting this afternoon involving a Goldsboro police officer.

Police say it happened around 1:40 p.m. on Pearson Street after a member of the department's Selective Enforcement Unit fired on a fleeing suspect.

Police say it began about three minutes earlier when officers tried to stop a vehicle at the corner of James and Kadis streets. They say the vehicle didn't stop and a short chase began.

A news release says neither the officer nor the suspect sustained any life-threatening injury, though both were take to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No word yet on why the officers were attempting to stop the vehicle in the first place.
