A former North Carolina state senator who lost narrowly a congressional bid to Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre in November says he'll run again for the 7th District seat in 2014.
Republican David Rouzer of Johnston County told The Insider that he would announce his candidacy officially next week. Rouzer lost to McIntyre by 654 votes of the more than 336,000 cast. He conceded following recounts in the southeastern North Carolina district, but left the door open for a repeat campaign.
The congressional district includes all of Duplin County and part of Lenoir County.
Rouzer did not immediately return a phone call Friday from The Associated Press.
McIntyre is in his ninth term and has filed paperwork to run for a tenth. He was targeted in 2012 by national Republicans after redistricting cut out Democratic precincts and his hometown of Lumberton.
