Road Near New Greenville Walmart Open Again

Portertown Road near the new Walmart reopened to traffic Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The section of the road from Highway 33 to Eastern Pines Rd. closed on Monday so crews could widen it and install turning lanes.

Portertown Road near the new Walmart should be back open to traffic by this weekend after being closed all week for construction, but just slightly later than originally expected.

The DOT said it expects the road to be open by 4pm Friday instead of Friday morning.

It has been closed all week between Highway 33 and Eastern Pines Road.

Crews are widening the road and adding new turn lanes to accommodate the new shopping center.
Drivers in and around the new Walmart in Greenville will have a detour as part of a nearby road shuts down for a week.

Beginning Monday, July 22 at 9 a.m., a section of Portertown Road from Eastern Pines road to NC 33 will be closed to allow crews to widen the road and install concrete islands and turn lanes.

The widening of Portertown Road was a requirement of the developer.

The NCDOT says this entrance was delayed due to the amount of rain over the past few weeks.

Detour signs will be posted during the construction.

Weather permitting, the road will reopen on Friday, July 26 at 7 a.m.
