Riverside Girls Lose Heartbreaker At State Championships

Chapel Hill -- The Riverside High School girls basketball team fell just shy of an undefeated season and 1A state championship, losing to Bishop McGuiness on a buzzer beater, 61-58.

With the game tied at 28 and time running out, Bishop McGuiness guard Alex Putman dribbled up the court and calmly hit a shot from near half court to win a 9th consecutive title for the Lady Villains.

Riverside's outstanding freshman Kayla Jones scored a game 31 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

The Knights finish the season with a 29-1 record.
