River Bend Police Arrest One, Searching For Two Others After Chase

The search is on for two men who ran from authorities early this morning in Craven County.

River Bend Police Chief Ryland Matthews says his officers have been aggressively patrolling businesses in overnight hours because of a recent rash of break-ins. "That paid off," Chief Matthews said, around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, when a sergeant saw the back door of Attitudes Pub and Grill on Shoreline Drive was open, and a car then sped away from the restaurant.

The police chase went through downtown New Bern, onto Glenburnie Rd. and into the Colony Apartment Complex. "There is only one way out and one way in," Chief Matthews said, so the car trying to run from the officers was boxed in. Matthews says two men ran from the car, but the driver was arrested on a charge of felony flee to elude arrest. His name has not been released, nor have the names of the two suspects who escaped arrest.

Chief Matthews says no one was injured in either the chase or the arrest. Police did recover some stolen items from the car, he said.

Chief Matthews says Craven County deputies assisted with the chase, and the sheriff's office and New Bern police are helping with the apprehension of the two suspects at large.
