Beaufort County remains under a state of emergency after a tornado damaged as many as 200 homes on Friday. Now, they're preparing an emergency storm shelter.
The shelter, which hasn't opened, went on standby at 3 p.m. at PS Jones Middle School at 4105 N. Market St. Ext. in Washington. No decision has been made yet whether the shelter will actually open or not.
The Red Cross says their agency and the Department of Social Services will be staffing the shelter if if opens. They ask anyone coming to the shelter to bring essential items for each member of the family, including prescriptions and emergency medications; identification extra clothing, pillows, blankets; hygiene supplies and other comfort items; supplies needed for children/infants, such as diapers, formula and toys; and special items needed for elderly or disabled.
