Raleigh Officer Wounded In Apartment Standoff

A Raleigh police officer has been wounded in a standoff with a man barricaded in an apartment.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says the suspect was later found dead Monday night from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sughrue says 30-year-old Officer A.W. Young was wounded when officers attempted to enter the apartment after responding to a report of suicide and possible violence.

Sughrue says officers had tried to talk the man into surrendering and when they attempted to enter the apartment, he fired several shots, hitting Young.

Young was in stable condition early Tuesday.

Sughrue says officers did not return fire but later used tear gas and entered and found 48-year-old Steve Gregory Meyer dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
