Raleigh Police: Vehicle Debris Could Be Connected To Vandermerwe Death

Raleigh Police say vehicle debris recovered in the investigation into the hit and run death of ECU graduate Weston Vandermerwe has provided some insight on what type of vehicle they are looking for.

Police say they recovered several pieces of debris from vehicles and all but one have been linked to other wrecks and have been eliminated as being related to the hit-and-run collision.

Investigators say the remaining piece of debris is from the right corner portion of the front bumper of a dark blue SUV.

Investigating officers have determined it was part of a 2007-2014 Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, or Cadillac Escalade.

The photo with this story from Raleigh Police shows the original location of the piece on a similar vehicle.

Crash investigators are seeking public assistance as they work to identify and locate the vehicle from which the bumper part originated to determine if it, too, can be eliminated or if it would warrant further investigation.

Anyone with information that might assist the investigation of the case should call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP or visit www.raleighcrimestoppers.org.
