RESCUE: Martin County Woman Airlifted After Falling From Deer Stand

A woman had to be airlifted to the hospital after rescue officials say she fell from a deer stand while hunting on Saturday.

Officials with Williamston Fire & Rescue say they got the call around 5:24 p.m. We’re told the woman, who is in her 20s, was sitting in a deer stand with her father a few miles from Poplar Point Road in Martin County. Officials say the deer stand came loose from the tree causing both to fall.

Rescuers say the victim sustained moderate injuries to her back, and was taken out of the woods on an ATV to a Vidant Medical Transport helicopter by 6:30. She was then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

We’re told the woman’s father was not injured.

Williamston Fire & Rescue, Hamilton Fire Department, and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.
