President Nominates Prosecutor For Lifetime ENC Federal Judge Job


RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - President Barack Obama is nominating a federal prosecutor for a lifetime position as a federal district judge in North Carolina.

The White House announced Thursday that Obama nominated Jennifer Prescod May-Parker to the U.S. district court for eastern North Carolina. If she is approved by the Senate, she would join six judges who hear cases at courtrooms in Elizabeth City, Fayetteville, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh and Wilmington.

May-Parker has since 2010 headed appeals efforts for the U.S. Attorney's office in the same district. She has been a federal prosecutor since 1999. Before that, she was as an assistant state attorney general.

May-Parker earned her bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo and law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.
