NEW INFO: Worker Dies After Being Run Over By Potato Truck

Deputies say a farm worker run over by a potato truck in Ayden has died from his injuries.

Pitt County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Christy Wallace tells WITN that Alvaro Tomos died at Vidant Medial Center after suffering severe head injures.

The 41-year-old lived in a migrant camp in Snow HIll. Wallace says some of the man's brothers were nearby when several witnesses saw the potato truck run over the worker.

Wallace said nearly 100 people were picking sweet potatoes.

A man suffered severe head injuries after a farming equipment accident Monday morning.

Officials with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office said at 8:22AM on Monday, a man was run over by the potato truck, that is built similar to an 18-wheeler truck. That plot of farm land where the accident happened is near the intersection of Emma Cannon Road and Ayden Golf Country Club Road in Ayden.
