Prime Minister: Marxist Group Responsible For Suicide Bombing At US Embassy

Turkey's prime minister says an outlawed Marxist group is responsible for a suicide bombing in front of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, which killed the bomber and a Turkish security guard.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Turkey's HaberTurk television that Friday's attack is the work of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, or DHKP-C. The group has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.

Erdogan said: "It is my principle to speak only after receiving the final result, but I can say clearly that it is DHKP-C."

An Associated Press journalist on Friday saw a body in the street in front of an embassy side entrance. The bomb appeared to have exploded inside the security checkpoint at the entrance of the embassy.

Private NTV television said two security guards at the entrance were killed.

The police official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government rules. The phones were not being answered at the embassy.
