Police: Man Robbed at Gunpoint After Being Offered A Ride

A man tells New Bern Police he was robbed at gunpoint after he got into a white SUV early Saturday morning.

According to police, a 36-year-old black man was walking on Neuse Boulevard at the intersection of Queen Anne Lane when he was approached by a white SUV at about 3:30 a.m. The victim says there were four other black males inside of the SUV when they engaged him in a casual conversation and offered him a ride to McDonald's. That's when the victim says he got into the SUV and one of the suspects pulled out a handgun, demanding money. The victim says he then pulled out his wallet and gave the man an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim escaped out of the vehicle by jumping out, and the SUV sped down the street.

No shots were fired, and no one was injured.

Police are still investigating. If you have any information that could help authorities, call the New Bern Police Department.
