Police say a rookie NYPD officer shot and killed a 14-year-old boy on a Bronx street after he refused to drop his gun and pointed it in the direction of officers.
NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters at a news conference Sunday it was still unclear whether Shaaliver Douse was aiming at the officers or at a man who was fleeing in their direction.
Police released video surveillance Sunday that shows a man identified as Douse firing at a group of men outside a bodega. The footage then shows Douse chasing after a fleeing man.
Police say Douse died of a single gunshot to his jaw after the 3 a.m. confrontation. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the officers identified themselves as police.
