A Greenville man has been arrested for shooting a man Saturday night on Westgate Drive.
Greenville police arrested Terrence Smith early Monday morning at his home on Bluff View Court in Greenville. Smith is charged with shooting Demond Speight on Saturday night.
Smith is charged with one count each of Assault With A Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill, Inflicting Serious Injury; and Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon. He was jailed at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.
The Greenville Police Emergency Response Team was used to arrest Smith in case he was armed.
Police say the investigation into the shooting continues, and more charges and more arrests are possible. Smith has prior arrests for drug offenses, fraud, and larceny, according to police.
Just before that shooting, Travis Blow was shot in the parking lot at Mid-Town Grocery on West 14th Avenue. Police continue to search for two suspects in that shooting.
Officers arrived to 3203 Westgate Drive in Greenville to find 27-year-old Demond Speight shot several times with a handgun. Police said two suspects, only described as two black males, one who had a handgun, ran from the crime scene on foot.
Police said during their investigation, they found a garbage bag with almost two pounds of marijuana in Speight's front yard. Investigators also saw damage to two cars on Speight 's property, and property damage to a neighboring home from shots fired.
The victim’s condition is unknown at this time. He was transported to Vidant Medical Center for treatment. Police said no other injuries were reported.
