An Onslow County man is behind bars after police say he led them on a chase, and tried to run down an officer with his vehicle.
Jacksonville Police say officers responded Saturday evening to the Triangle Mobile Home Park to remove an impaired subject from the residence. That suspect, identified as 22-year-old Edward Gibson of Wilmington Highway, fled the scene in a vehicle down U.S. Highway 17 South.
Holly Ridge Police Department deployed tire deflation devices, but were unable to disable the vehicle. Officials say a second set of tire deflation devices were used by Jacksonville Police, when they say Gibson tried to hit the deploying officer with his vehicle.
The chase ended when Gibson’s vehicle became disabled from the deflated tires.
Gibson has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, felony speed to elude arrest, failure to yield for blue lights/siren, DWI, careless and reckless, aggressive driving, possession schedule VI controlled substance (Spice), possession of drug paraphernalia and a number of traffic violations.
His bond was set at $27,000
