POLICE: Man Caught With Taco Bell Loot, Gun Moments After Robbery

It didn't take long for officers in one Eastern Carolina city to nab a suspected armed robber.

Elizabeth City police arrested Michael Respass for Sunday's armed robbery of the Taco Bell on West Ehringhaus Street.

The robbery happened about 8:35 p.m. with the gunman getting more than $1,300 in cash from the restaurant.

Police say when they arrested Respass he had a black coat containing the cash and a loaded .380 automatic handgun equipped with laser sights.

The Elizabeth City man was jailed on a $20,000 bond and has his first appearance Tuesday morning.
