Greenville Man Accused Of Being Fake Cop Facing More Serious Charges

A man who already is accused of impersonating a federal law enforcement officer is now back behind bars on more serious charges.

Greenville police and Pitt County deputies arrested Norman Shackley Wednesday morning. The Greenville man is accused of trying to coerce his estranged wife into falsely testifying and reportedly threatened to kill her if she didn't comply.

He was charged with extortion, intimidating a state's witness and obstruction of justice.

The 47-year-old Shackley was originally arrested back in January for impersonating a federal law enforcement officer.

Police say in December Shackley was trying to get into a secured area of Ample Mini Storage on Arlington Boulevard without an access code. The victim told investigators that Shackley cursed him, told him he was a federal law enforcement officer, displayed a gold badge and then threatened to arrest the man.

When Shackley was arrested in January, detectives seized a gold badge from him.

He was jailed on a $400,000 bond on the latest charges.
