DOT Plows Getting Police Escorts In Jacksonville

State highway plows are getting police escorts in Jacksonville to help clear the streets.

The city received about an inch of snow and sleet Tuesday, but today many main highways were still treacherous.

Police teamed up with the DOT for general safety reasons, as they have 12 foot wide plows and some drivers try to unsafely pass them.

Onslow County has 21 plows and graders out Wednesday, the most ever for winter weather, according to the DOT.

Rain is falling in Jacksonville now, while schools and many businesses remain closed.
