Drivers may need to reroute around some road construction in Onslow County later in the week.
The Department of Transportation is working to resurface a stretch of Hargett Street.
Crews said they would be resurfacing Hargett Street between Bell Fork Road and Johnson Boulevard.
The work was supposed to start Monday morning, but now the DOT says any closures and delays won't begin until Wednesday.
In addition, the DOT will add a bike lane between New River Drive and Bell Fork Road. Crews said they would also improve some pedestrian crossings at major intersections along the typically busy road.
According to the DOT, crews gave special attention to the NC License Plate Contractor along Hargett Street so the office is still accessible during the construction.
The DOT said the entire road will be closed for several days Crews plan to open one lane of intermittent traffic sometime the following week.
