A local teenager is behind bars, accused of sex crimes against a 13 year old, according to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office.
Pitt County authorities arrested 18-year-old James Butler of Winterville. He is being charged with the statutory rape or sex offense against a child who is less than four to six years younger than the suspect. Lt. Paula Dance says the victim is 13 years old.
Earlier reports erroneously indicated the victim was between four and six years old.
Butler is being held at the Pitt County jail under a $200,000 bond.
