Washington County Substitute Teacher Accused Of Biting Ex-Girlfriend's Ear

A substitute school teacher is accused of bitting the ear of his ex-girlfriend, causing her serious injury.

Pitt County deputies have charged Twyman Arnold with maiming without malice, assault on a female and kidnapping. They say the 39-year-old is a substitute teacher in Washington County and at one time a bus driver with the school system.

According to the Washington County School Superintendent, Dr. Joe Davis, Arnold has been suspended without pay until the investigation is complete.

Deputies say the two met Sunday night near Pactolus Elememtary School, apparently to exchange property. Arnold is accused of holding the woman against her will for a couple of hours, and then at some point bit her ear. Investigators say the victim eventually persuaded Arnold to release her and she drove to Vidant Medical Center.

Arnold, who lives in Jamesville, was arrested this morning by Plymouth police.
